The Black Pearl, Newport, Rhode Island

We sat in the casual section; I think I saw white tablecloths on the other side of the restaurant. Our side would have been a fun atmosphere if I were 30 years younger; it was somewhat cramped and quite noisy. I now appreciate a quieter setting, so maybe we should have gone with the white tablecloths ... Still, I won't derate this place because of the atmosphere because I know many people like that sort of thing.
I had the Sea Scallops, which were served in a cream sauce with mushrooms and bacon. They were really good. The sauce wasn’t too rich, and the scallops were done just right and were very tasty. My wife had the grilled sea scallops and shrimp combo, and she gave me a taste. These scallops were huge and tasted even better than mine, but the shrimp, being much smaller, were overcooked.
I had heard that people came here just for the clam chowder, but I thought it was nothing special.
