“This girl is all grown up”
Erik's Review
02/08
Oh how I long for the summer nights drinking cheap Bud Light's and partying to great live music on the original dockside bar at Christie's. If you were at the farewell party watching "Those Guy's" perform on stage as we all said our drunken goodbyes, you already know how special that place truly was.
All is not lost however; the new Christie's that opened up almost next door to the original is not to be missed. You can think of the new Christie's as the more refined and matured version of the rowdy slut that everyone loved to party with in college. There is unfortunately no open-air bar any longer, but a swanky lounge is waiting for you on the inside. The restaurant is very modern looking which is enhanced by pleasant colors and artistic touches that scattered all around the room including deep oddly shaped chairs.
The food is outstanding. You almost always know your meal is going to be great when right off the bat the attentive server offers you a small taste of what's cooking, compliments of the chef. I dined with a group and was able to sample everything from roast chicken and artichokes, to fried shrimp and fresh cod. All were wonderfully prepared and generously portioned. During the off season they have a deal which cannot be beat – 2 meals and bottle of wine (or 2 beers) for $28. They also accept the Newport Dining Card so there is really no excuse to not at least try the place out.
For some reason, I have had a terrible time finding great service lately in Newport. Trust me, you will find it at Christie's. Our server was friendly, fast, and helpful. I can't wait to go back. Christies definitely earns 5 scoops.
