Poor Richards is located right below Benjamin's in Newport, RI. If you're familiar with Newport at all, it's the restaurant that ALWAYS has people trying to shove menus in your face during the summer. For that reason, I was always very put off by Poor Richards, but now having to review places for The Scoop, I decided it was an important place to visit. It is the breakfast restaurant for tourists simply because of their location.

The interior is actually a lot nicer than I expected it to be. There are several large TVs and a large bar. The food was pretty good; I mean it's really hard to screw up breakfast. I ordered an egg benedict with diced tomatoes and a ton of bacon. I'm not a huge breakfast meat person so I ended up having to take off half of the bacon (I can hear people screaming right now!). There also weren't nearly enough breakfast potatoes served with my meal, which is my favorite part. The orange juice was fresh squeezed which earns high points in my book; but the coffee was extremely week and not hot enough, which takes away all the points just earned by the OJ.

All in all, there's not much to write about Poor Richards. It has a great location on upper Thames, but it is definitely not my first pick for a breakfast joint. For the Newport area, I recommend Jonathan's Ocean Coffee Roasters, or if you want to drive a little further and beat down some crowds of people, a must see is Atlantic Grille in Middletown.
