I really love to write bad reviews, but unfortunately I can't do that this time. The Red Parrot in Newport, RI is just about everything you could possibly want from a restaurant experience; decent prices combined with a great atmosphere, harbor views and delicious food make this experience hard to beat.
Upon entering The Red Parrot you are usually pleasantly greeted by a beautiful woman, where in the summer she will almost always tell you to travel up to the 2nd level and speak to the hostess there. At the second level, you will encounter another beautiful girl, who might, depending on how busy the place is, tell you to travel to the 3rd floor. If this happens to you, don't be angry... the higher you travel up, the better your view overlooking the harbor & downtown Newport will be.
After finding your seat, you will be presented with a menu that's about as thick as War & Peace. This novel has everything you could ever want in it... filet minion, baked stuffed lobster, lasagna, pizza, and TONS more. The prices are about average for Newport, and the drink quality is typical too. Just like most places in Newport, I would stick to beer, wine & straight drinks on the rocks. Mixed drinks have almost no alcohol in them, and cost about $8 each.
With such a diverse selection, this is the place for you if you're a picky eater. I suppose that my only negative comment would be that your meal might take a bit longer then you would like, but it's worth it. This is a great place to bring a date as well. I don't usually do this, but the Red Parrot is getting 5 scoops from me.
