There are certain weeks that feel uniquely Newport Beach, and this is one of them. The harbor is packed with activity, and visitors get a glimpse of what locals enjoy year-round.

Beyond the boats, though, there is plenty happening around town, from community traditions to summer events filling up the calendar. If you've been looking for an excuse to spend more time outside, this might be your week.

🪵 A decade of classic craftsmanship on the water

The Gist: This Saturday, June 13, the Balboa Yacht Club is hosting the 10th anniversary of the Newport Beach Wooden Boat Festival from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Neighbors can tour a curated collection of 40 classic wooden-hull vessels, including powerboats and sailboats. The highlight this year is the 118-foot Tall Ship Spirit of Dana Point, a historic replica schooner that was actually built right here in Newport Beach. The day also features 20-minute gondola harbor cruises, live music, and toy boat building for the kids.
Why It Matters: This is a rare chance for the public to enjoy a private waterfront venue while celebrating our rich local maritime heritage. It is also a special homecoming for the Spirit of Dana Point, welcoming her back to her original Newport Harbor home. Admission is $10, and kids 12 and under are free.
🎓 Newport-Mesa seniors honored at 33rd scholarship night
The Gist: The Balboa Bay Club's 1221 Club, named for the resort's 1221 West Coast Highway address, presented scholarship grants to high-achieving graduating seniors from Newport-Mesa Unified School District at its annual awards dinner this month. The program is funded largely by the Club's Annual Men's Smoker and Auction, an under-the-radar local fundraiser.
Why It Matters: This is the 33rd year the 1221 Club has handed out these grants to Newport Harbor, CdM, and other Newport-Mesa graduates heading off to college, making it one of the longest-running student scholarship traditions in the city. It's a quiet reminder that a lot of the kids in caps and gowns this month had a Newport-side cheering section funding their next chapter.

💍 The McFadden Building's romantic secret

2100 W Oceanfront, Newport Beach
21 Oceanfront sits one floor up at the base of Newport Pier, a historic space that’s quietly racked up nearly every "Most Romantic" title in town. With half-round black booths and picture windows built for the sunset, we have just the thing to get you through summer and beyond.
This season, the energy moves outside to the Patio 21 Spritz Garden for craft spritzes, music, and coastal sunshine. Note that the patio closes for private events on select weekend dates in June and July, so plan your sunset toast accordingly.

🌹 The Via Oporto flower cart brides have on speed dial

3421 Via Oporto M201, Newport Beach
