Summer weekends in Newport are pretty hard to beat, and this one might be the biggest yet. From morning bike parades to evening fireworks, there are plenty of ways to make memories without going far.

We’ve pulled together the highlights so you can spend less time searching and more time enjoying the holiday.

⛵ Old Glory Boat Parade sails through Newport Harbor

The Gist: The American Legion Yacht Club is hosting its annual Old Glory Boat Parade in Newport Harbor this Saturday, July 4, from 1 to 3:30 p.m. Starting at the east end of Lido Isle, this year's parade theme is Celebrating 250 Years of Freedom, honoring the nation's upcoming milestone birthday. The event also marks the club's 60th anniversary of serving local veterans, with the yacht Valor leading the fleet.

Why It Matters: If you love our community's coastal traditions, this parade is the place to be for the holiday weekend. Since it is completely free to watch, it is a great, easy way for the whole neighborhood to get outside and celebrate together.

What's Next: The winning skippers and crews will be crowned at an official awards banquet on Sunday, July 19 at 5 p.m.

🌞 DAR chapter continues legacy of local service

The Gist: The Colonel William Cabell Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution is being spotlighted for its dedication to our community as America approaches its 250th birthday. Originally founded in 1950 by Mabel Bowen Boardman with 24 members, the non-political group has grown to 150 women across Newport Beach and Costa Mesa.

Why It Matters: By keeping their focus entirely on volunteer work like hosting baby showers for military families, these neighbors are carrying a historical torch into modern-day service. It is a lovely reminder of how honoring the past can directly lift up the folks living next door today.

🥩 Elevating your summer cookouts

417 30th St, Newport Beach

Arc Butcher & Baker remains NB’s quiet weekend weapon, centering around a gorgeous patio and a wood-fired kitchen. Part high-end butcher, part neighborhood bakery, it is where we source the premium ribs, house-made sausages, and flame-kissed burgers that anchor a proper coastal Fourth of July.

Sip a hand-selected local beer and save room for the massive five-layer carrot cake.

👕 The corner where local history meets summer style.

213 Marine Ave, Newport Beach

Balboa Surf & Style has been a fixture on Marine Avenue for over 50 years, at the very corner where the Old Glory Boat Parade glides past this Saturday. It is an independent neighborhood staple, combining classic surf culture with an impressive collection of comfy hometown tees and sweatshirts.

The friendly crew have the shop fully stocked for the Fourth with vintage-feel apparel, sun-ready hats, and all kinds of boards.

Meet Orenji, an awesome orange domestic short hair kitten

This small, active fellow is less than a year old and absolutely thrives on playtime, though he is equally fond of rolling onto his back to show off his kitten belly. Orenji gets along wonderfully with other cats, while his compatibility with dogs and kids is currently unknown.

He comes fully neutered and vaccinated. Please contact TippedEars directly regarding his adoption fee.
