The best part of living in a place like Newport Beach is that the calendar fills itself. One day you are finding a new favorite brunch spot, the next you are watching fireworks by the bay or discovering a community event you somehow missed before.

Summer has a way of bringing everyone out, and this season already feels full of energy. Here are a few local finds, traditions, and upcoming events worth knowing about.

250th Birthday Bash hits Newport Harbor

The Gist: Newport Beach is hosting a massive lineup of local events from July 2 through 5 to celebrate our nation’s historic 250th milestone. The fun kicks off with a Patriotic Brass Quartet at Lido Marina Village, followed by Newport Dunes' Back Bay celebration featuring food trucks and a 9 p.m. fireworks show on the Fourth. The American Legion Yacht Club's Old Glory Boat Parade will set sail at 1 p.m. from Lido Isle on July 4, while the 15th annual family bike and dog parade starts at 9 a.m. at Balboa Blvd. and 36th Street.

Why It Matters: From recognizing our neighborhood pets in the family parade to relaxing on the Balboa Peninsula Trolley, it's the perfect way for neighbors to connect without the stress of holiday parking. Plus, music lovers can head over to Great Park Live to see the iconic pop duo Air Supply team up with our own Pacific Symphony.

📚 The library's "last jewel" is finally opening its doors

The Gist: After years of planning and fundraising, Witte Hall, the city's new civic auditorium next to the Central Library, is opening to the public with a grand-opening weekend on July 11 and 12. The 9,815-square-foot space seats 299, with a permanent stage, professional sound and video, and the adjacent Stahr Courtyard for receptions.

Why It Matters: It finally gives Newport a proper home for author talks, lectures, film screenings, and performances. Opening weekend includes a family celebration, an author event with surf legend Shaun Tomson, and a Sunday musicale with a cello quartet.

🍕 A century of sizzle and steak

3334 West Coast Hwy, Newport Beach

A Restaurant began life in 1925 as a Mediterranean-style roadhouse when Coast Highway first reached Newport Beach. A century later, it remains the ultimate old-school dinner room, boasting low light, deep red leather booths, and a buzzing bar.

It is the ideal spot to start or cap off the upcoming Fourth of July weekend! Skip the grill duties and opt for their legendary boneless ribeye paired with a chilled bottle of Clé Cachée, or try the seasonal halibut served over fregola sarda. Just don't forget an order of the corn madeleines for the table.

🚲 Red, white, and two-wheeled freedom

2233 W Balboa Blvd #111, Newport Beach

Skip the brutal pier parking this Fourth of July and move like a local. Since 2007, Newport Cruisers Bike Shop near Balboa and 23rd has kept the peninsula rolling on single-speed cruisers equipped with baskets and bells.

It is the perfect long-weekend strategy for catching the Island ferry or joining the annual neighborhood bike parade. Everything you need (from fresh brakes to helmets and maps) is ready to go.
