The school supplies may already be making their way onto kitchen tables, but we're not quite ready to call summer over. There are still warm evenings, outdoor events, and plenty happening around town this week.

The Newport Beach Art Exhibition is back Saturday with more than 300 original works, and the rest of the calendar is just as tempting. Add a great breakfast, a local bike shop, and one exceptional events list, and you've got this week's Scoop.

🎨 Newport Beach Art Show returns this Saturday

The Gist: The Newport Beach Civic Center hosts the 59th annual Newport Beach Art Exhibition this Saturday, August 15 from noon to 5 p.m. Local California artists will show and sell over 300 original works, spanning paintings, sculptures, and photography. The afternoon features live music by BSide, Mexican food from Tacos and Company, drinks from Tap Truck OC, kids crafts by Art in Motion, and native plant tours from Sherman Library and Gardens.
Why It Matters: It is a great way to support our regional artists while enjoying a full afternoon of food, music, and community spirit right in our backyard. Plus, attendees get to help choose the winner by casting a vote for the People's Choice Award before 3 p.m. Head to 100 Civic Center Drive this Saturday, with free parking available in the main structure off Avocado Avenue.
🩹 Two lifeguards turned scraped knees into a startup
The Gist: Newport Beach ocean lifeguards Michael Vaughan and Foster Hoose launched WaveAid, a line of kids' adhesive bandages decorated with sea creatures and printed with marine-life facts. The idea came from years in the tower, watching the sticker, not the bandage, put a smile on a hurt kid's face.
Why It Matters: It is a homegrown Newport idea built to make a rough moment easier and sneak in a little ocean science, well timed as scraped-knee season rolls into the school year.

🥞 Fluffy orange ricotta stacks and morning sunshine

1807 Westcliff Dr, Newport Beach
Haute Cakes Caffe has set the standard for slow morning rituals since 1990. The kitchen turns out cult-favorite orange ricotta and gluten-free blueberry pancakes, house-made almond milk lattes, and a chorizo scramble with real kick.
Clean ingredients and seed-oil-free cooking keep the menu fresh. Outdoor courtyard seating fills early, making it a go-to for effortless sunny breakfasts.

🚴♂️ Where local pedals meet Olympic-level precision

1000 Bristol St N Ste 26, Newport Beach
Backpacks are back, bike commutes are in, and Bikehouse is keeping wheels rolling smoothly. Tucked along Bristol Street near the airport, this rider-owned shop is run by Olympic BMX athlete Cristian Becerine and head mechanic Collin.
They handle everything from tune-ups to e-bike overhauls with rare speed, honest pricing, and genuine warmth. Drop off your dusty cruiser(or your kid's first bike!) and expect same-day care that gets you back on the road just in time for the morning bell.
