The Gist: A group of visiting friends scored a rare treat off Newport Beach when a humpback whale breached right beside their whale watching boat, splashing guests and sparking cheers all around. Crews say several humpbacks have been feeding close to shore since early November thanks to plentiful anchovies. 🎄 Light Up the Harbor: Register for the 2025 117th Annual Newport Beach Christmas Boat Parade & Ring of Lights

The Gist: It’s time to deck the decks! Registration is officially open for the 117th annual parade, running December 17–21, 2025 with this year’s theme: “Magical Nights of Lights.” 
Boats of all sizes can enter, and waterfront homes, businesses and yacht clubs are invited to join the Ring of Lights decorating contest.

Why it Matters: The event transforms the entire harbor into a glowing holiday spectacle and draws locals and visitors alike.
